Why do I lose my setup or my settings in Second Life?

After you have set up your new Signature Gear, your new gear is not automatically saved on SL’s permanent asset servers.

Also, whether you’re currently leashed, or you’re on a Gag Trial your leash-state and Trial progress is powered by, and known by the script which is running on the sim servers.

Now, if you crash, or inadvertently disconnect from the sim, or accidentally drag your SL folder onto your avatar, the SL sim will lose your current state. When you relog you will revert to a previous state (i.e. the “last-saved” state), which usually is the last state when:

  • you took the object into your inventory.
  • you TP’d somewhere successfully.
  • you logged out successfully.

In these three cases, your viewer instructs the sim to save the gear and script states with the asset servers so that the next time you relog or rez the gear, they will carry on from where you left off. When you crash, or lose connection, your viewer doesn’t get a chance to tell the sim to save anything. Hence you revert to the last saved-state.

Saving your Signature Gear set-up

You have just finished your set-up and gotten your new Signature gear. It’s best to save your new gear.
